Civil Society
| As China pursues economic reform and modernization, civil society is emerging to help ease the negative effects of economic development. Chinese citizens are seeking ways to organize to respond to society’s needs and convey concerns in a way which influences the policy-making process. One major development has been the emergence of non-governmental organizations (NGOs). These NGOs and charities, in addition to the government, are looking at the issues and are starting to develop strategies to meet the current and projected needs of Chinese society. There is however, much ground to be covered in bridging the gap between government agencies and foreign or domestic foundations working hand in hand. | |
