Life as a migrant is very difficult, many suffer illnesses from overworking and they face many obstacles to proper health care. Many workers only have one or two days off per month, and some none at all. In addition, most migrants have little knowledge of the labor code and their employers often deny them their rights with threats of taking away their job. This is of utmost concern with the downturn of the Chinese and world economy. Many of the once-thriving factories have shut down and turned their workers out. Some of the migrants chose to go home to their villages; others carry their belongings with them daily as they look for new work. Unfortunately, with a projected 20 million migrants out of work, the likelihood of even a majority of them being re-employed in the near future is dim.
